Temple Mania

I never admit to myself that religion is one of the most interesting objects of study, although subconsciously it's always on my mind. Whenever I try to make my way through this vast and bustling city, I stumble upon a temple, shrine or even someone's home, where I take notes of the god's story. Most gods I've visited in south Taipei are local Taoist gods or the Earth god. This way I've been to approximately ten temples without going there on purpose. There might very well me as much gods in Taiwan as there are people. No building or place goes without religion.

Some photo's; the woman with the red shirt is a temple servant, the local population take turns tending to the temple. The other women on the next photo is a housewife from the neighborhood bringing offerings. After withstanding my questions for some time she decided I had to pay my respects to the Earth god. I cannot remember how many times I've had to do that by now. It makes sense though, you can't go into someone's house and ignore him.
